The Ultimate Guide to EA Sports FC

Year after year, football fans look forward to the start of a new football season, and many of us extend this excitement to the release of a new FIFA game. However, this year things are a little different as Electronic Arts (EA) and FIFA have parted ways, meaning that FIFA 23 was the last collaboration between the two organisations.

However, to many gamers’ delight, the series has been revived with a brand new title ‘EA Sports FC’, with the first game released in September 2023. The game now has no direct affiliation with FIFA but continues to hold licensing deals for players and teams from around the world, and EA’s partnership with UEFA still remains, allowing the Champions League to be part of the games. If you’re confused about what changes will be made to this beloved game, our guide will detail everything you need to know before you commit to the purchase.

Why did EA's partnership with FIFA end?

Firstly, we should address the elephant in the room. The terms ‘football’ and ‘FIFA’ pretty much go hand in hand, with decades of a new FIFA game being released each year, many fans are left wondering why the partnership has ended.

To put it simply, it is reported that the two brands had widely different expectations of what should come out of the deal. With FIFA allegedly asking for more than double the £121 million EA was paying annually for a new deal and EA pushing for more entertainment content in the form of NFTs and real game footage. As such, no agreement could be made and the partnership came to an end, resulting in the creation of EA Sports FC 24.

Will FIFA continue to make games?

FIFA has confirmed that it will launch its own series of games using third-party game developers to rival the new EA Sports FC series. However, not much is known about these developments at this stage. Since the EA Sports franchise will continue to create games that are extremely similar to the FIFA partnership series, it appears that FIFA will be scrambling to make a worthy rival in the gaming arena.

Will EA Sports FC have real teams?

Despite no agreement being made between the two organisations, this shouldn’t affect the traditional gameplay too much as EA is still able to sign deals with clubs and players without FIFA’s involvement. This means that EA Sports FC can hold licensing agreements to allow gamers to play with real teams. However, despite agreements being made with individual teams without FIFA, the game cannot feature the World Cup.

What clubs are in EA Sports FC?

Many favourite UK and international teams will still feature in the game, with EA holding licensing for the Premier League, Barclays Women’s Super League, EFL Championship, EFL League One and Two, and the National League. Other countries will also be included in the game, and a full breakdown of the licensing for global competitions can be found in the table below. Teams that feature in those competitions are likely to be playable in the game, though there are still some divisions that have teams TBC.

What are the best EA Sports FC Kits?

To give a better idea of some of the teams you can expect to find in the new game, we’ve selected a few of the best home and away EA Sports FC kits. Of course, it’s all down to personal preference but we think the following five are some of the best-looking kits in the game.

Manchester City Third - Designed with a striking blue lightning pattern against black, this is an eye-catching kit that is perfectly finished with contrasting red logos.

Venezia FC - We’d expect nothing less than Italian luxury from this team, and their kit has not disappointed. We particularly favour the home kit with its black and gold colour scheme and signature green and red stripe.

Inter Miami Home Kit - The Inter Miami home kit really does stand out. The cool pink is completed with black accents such as the Adidas logo and stripes, this modern colour combination makes for a seriously good-looking kit. Their away kit sports a reversed colour scheme which is a perfect complement to the home kit, and whichever option you choose is sure to look great.

Aberdeen Away Kit - Adopting an almost galactic look, the Aberdeen away kit reflects the Northern Lights in a colour scheme of black, purple and light blue in an eye-catching swirl design. The split Adidas stripes bring this kit together, featuring light blue on one shoulder and purple on the other.

What are the key differences between FIFA 23 and EA Sports FC 24?

Aside from the name change, there are a few noticeable differences to the game. Without spoiling the gameplay or delving too deep into the mechanics, here are just a few of the differences that you can expect from the new series.

Change of the cover star - Manchester City’s Erling Haaland will feature on the cover of the game, replacing Kylian Mbappé who features on the last three FIFA games.

Mode changes - You’ll still have all of the same modes as seen in FIFA but elevated to new levels with new additions such as better rewards systems in Pro Clubs and coaches in career mode. And if you’re wondering ‘Will EA Sports FC have Ultimate Team mode?’, the answer is yes. This is still the most popular play mode but for the first time ever female players will now be included in Ultimate Teams.

Interface changes - The menu in EA Sports FC has a different layout and design to the FIFA series, whereby players can get into the game more quickly by eliminating the numerous rails and screen switches seen in FIFA 23.

Overall, gamers can expect to see many of their favourite features of the FIFA series in this new game and won’t be affected by changes that make the game unrecognisable.
